Blue ( silver to dark gun metal blue)

Thai Ridgeback dogs with this colour were originally bred by Ruang Paripon Potchanapisut. In the first few generations, the Thai Ridgeback dogs had long blackish-gray hair, ashy-gray, and a molten silver colour. In the present time, they were mated with Thai Ridgeback  dogs from Trad and Chantaburi provinces and produced the Thai Ridgebacks with a short and fine velvet-like coat. The ridges in this colour are not usually big and most often seen are the lute and arrow ridges. The blue Ridgeback dogs with velvet-coats and eyes of amber are very beautiful.

THAI RIDGEBACK

Red ( light copper to dark mahogany)

These are the original domesticated Thai Ridgeback dogs in some Eastern provinces, such as Trad, Chantaburi and Rayong. The length of the hair is usually short. Some of the reds later developed into dogs with fine velvet coats.  They will produce puppies with larger and wider ridges. Their coat colours include all shades of red. The rarest ones to be found are copper  with short, fine and velvet-like hair.  Mahogany (Tamarind seed-like) is also very rare and considered to be one of the most beautiful of colors. Any of the shades of red may or may not have a black mask, however there should be no other back markings.

Black

The Black Thai Ridgeback dog is the dominant base colour amongst the other colours. Their colour should be completely black, which makes the hair look shiny and beautiful. Their skin, nails, lips and noses should also be black.

THAI RIDGEBACK

Fawn or Kleeb-Bua (very light isabella)

These are hybrids from the blue and red dogs. They are the very light shades of isabella. This family includes yellow kleeb-bauo, rotten kleeb-buao, gray-tone kleeb-buao, pink kleeb-bua colour and ka-pi (shrimp paste). Fawns are sometimes referred to as yellow.

UNACCEPTABLE COLOURS / MARKINGS

The following colours can occassionally occur but they are not acceptable. Thai Ridgebacks should not have any markings. These dogs should be spayed or neutered and never bred.

Brindle

These are the mixes resulting from mating of the red Ridgeback dog and the brindle Thai dogs. Their bloodlines are unknown. The brindle-like pattern on each dog can be very different.

White

They appear very clean, and solid white.

Black and Tan

The black and tan pattern resembles that of a Rottweiler, Dobermann or German Shepherd.  Also found is tan under coat covered by a black top coat. No tan is permitted on a black dog.

Brown

Chocolate brown is also not an acceptable colour however many are sold as cocoa black, reds or blacks to unsuspecting buyers.
